Matt Hinkley
Born and raised in West Texas, Matt is a hybrid musician in the truest sense of the word. A sought-after guitarist, a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, piano, bass, drums, accordion, mandolin, banjo, tenor banjo, dobro), a music director, an orchestrator, and a songwriter and performer, Matt is carving out a unique role in the NYC music and theater worlds. From singing Billy Idol songs on a coffe table in Scooby-Doo underwear, to fronting rock and punk bands in school, to working for several years as an actor, to writing his own music and being fortunate enough to lend his talents to others, Matt continues to find creative ways to incorporate both music and theater into his professional life.

Matt earned a degree in Vocal Performance/Music Theater from NYU, but while he has spent half his life in various aspects of theater, it was only several years ago that he decided to go back to his roots and focus on being a musician. His experience with voice and his time on the "other side of the table," coupled with years of playing, enable him to work comfortably in a variety of roles on a variety of projects at any stage of development. While Matt may be best known for his work with Paul Scott Goodman (ROOMS, Bright Lights Big City) and his longstanding collaboration with Larson and Kleban Award winner Joe Iconis (Bloodsong Of Love, Things To Ruin), he has been blessed to work with countless numbers of talented writers and artists on hundreds of productions, readings, concerts, recordings, and workshops.
As a songwriter and performer, Matt released a self-titled album in 2008 that is an original and refreshing collection of twelve songs, ranging from acoustic Americana to full-bore rock 'n' roll. His songwriting is guided by the blues, rock, and country of Texas, the straight-up, explosive rock he was weaned on, and the tight songwriting structure and style of classic artists like The Beatles. Matt continues to write and perform, both solo and with his band. In addition, Matt plays guitar et al for several other songwriters and artists.
Matt lives in Manhattan with his wife and their two cats.
